the rescue of two humpback whales
The makeshift rescue team equipped with machetes and kitchen knives found an adult humpback whale and her calf entangled in what would be at least three miles of fishing line filled with hooks that trapped two dead olive ridley turtles snagged in the line.
After the rescue, Innoceana wanted to show the world the anthropogenic impact that unsustainable fishing has on marine life, and what is happening in the high seas; but the organization did not have the resources to do so. It wasn’t until 2020 when Innoceana partnered with Pipa and Coco from the Vegan Pirates, experts in audiovisual production, that a documentary was able to be produced
Our impact: With this documentary, we are working fowards legally prohibiting longline fishing during the humpback whale´s migration season in the South Pacific ocean of Costa Rica.
