THE RESCUE OF TWO HUMPBACK WHALES
When the makeshift rescue team equipped with machetes and kitchen knives located the cetaceans in distress, they found an adult humpback whale and her calf entangled in what would be at least three miles of fishing line filled with hooks and included two dead olive ridley turtles snagged in the line.
After the rescue, Innoceana wanted to show the world the anthropogenic impact that unsustainable fishing has on marine life, and what is happening on the high seas; but the organization did not have the resources or capacity to do so. Due to limited resources and capacity, it was not until 2020 when Innoceana partnered with Pipa and Coco, experts in audiovisual production, who helped us create our documentary.
Our impact: With this documentary, we are working to legally prohibit
longline fishing gear during the migration season of humpback whales in the South Pacific ocean of Costa Rica
