Purpose
After studying and mapping the seagrass meadows in the Special Conservation Areas of Tenerife and identifying the threats these meadows face, Innoceana’s next endeavor is to proactively contribute to the restoration of this invaluable ecosystem. The ‘Los Jardineros del Mar’ project marks our initial stride in planting seagrass in Tenerife, aiming to rehabilitate and regain the lost coverage of these meadows. In the long run, the project’s objective is to establish an innovative and collaborative seagrass restoration program in Tenerife.
The Results
Despite its importance, the sebadal is in decline in the Canary Islands. For all these reasons, it is necessary to understand the causes of its disappearance. This can be done through the following platform, which is the result of our work in the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Teno-Rasca (2023).
