Innoceana has participated in and promoted many marine cleanups and aims to increase local action for marine protection. We commit to a minimum of two monthly beach cleanups with local communities in Costa Rica and one monthly seabed cleanup in the Canary Islands.
Since our cleanup projects, we have transformed natural marine areas covered in litter into spaces where marine life recovered again.
Our impact: Innoceana has involved hundreds of people in Costa Rica and the Canary Islands to clean and renaturalize beaches and seabeds.
Through local and collaborative action, Innoceana hopes to encourage sustainable habits and motivate municipalities to support stronger enforcement in protecting their natural resources.
Since the beginning of the year 2021, Innoceana has committed to carrying out at least 36 beach and underwater clean-ups annually in Spain and Costa Rica. The aim of the cleanups is to spread awareness and are therefore carried out by the team, volunteers and collaborators.
ABOUT THE LOCATION
Nestled along Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, Violin Beach is a protected area cherished for its natural splendor and rich biodiversity. Despite its safeguarded status, waste, mainly from the Sierpe River and the sea, poses a persistent challenge. Preserving La Boca Sierpe is vital for safeguarding its ecosystems and supporting local communities dependent on its resources.

About the results
Thanks to the 9 volunteers, we collected 1139 bottles ofwater, which were probably swept into the ocean from coastal areas or boats, and washed up here due to currents and tides. Styrofoam and shoes were among the items found washed up on the beach.
