OCEAN CITIZEN will develop a replicable marine restoration protocol that combines habitat and biodiversity regeneration with carbon immobilization assessment and social engagement, to bring economic benefits to the local communities.
The ocean is now seriously degraded, with changes and losses in marine systems’ structure, function and ecosystem services. There is a lack of holistic approaches and protocols to large-scale ocean adaptationand restoration. OCEAN CITIZEN will implement and scale up an advanced regeneration program to promote biodiversity, enhance ecosystem functioning, and increase blue carbon sequestration. This program integrates ecological perspectives with societal commitment, providing clear economic benefits and improving the resilience of the local communities.
